Are you pregnant with ovarian cyst or multiple cysts?

If so, are you worried that perhaps being pregnant with a cyst can mean you will have a dangerous delivery of your newborn child? This is a very normal question to have for soon to be moths fretting with everything that comes along with pregnancy (especially if it is your first!) but there are some thing you need to know, some good and some bad in relation to ovarian cysts during pregnancy and delivery.

Firstly, an ovarian cyst is not always dangerous. The size of the cyst is the main indicator of how dangerous it might be. A small cyst that is not growing and is not causing much pain is probably very benign and not going to cause any complications during the pregnancy or the birth. A small cyst is one that is under 4-5cm or so, but this will vary from woman to woman, some might find these quite uncomfortable as well so all cyst should be investigated.

When an ovarian cyst during pregnancy becomes dangerous is because of four main things: Pain, Size, Rupturing, and Twisting.

Pain - No matter what size the cyst is, if you are suffering from pain this is a bad thing for your and your baby. excessive amounts of pain cause changes in your body chemicals and hormones such as adrenaline and others. Too much of this is not good i a period where your baby relies on a stable environment for its survival. Too much pain has led to some women givign birth prematurly which is dangerous no matter what the cause.

Size - This is more the base cause of the symptoms I am explaining about being pregnant with ovarian cysts. The larger the ovarian cyst during pregnancy the more chance you have of being in pain, or having it rupture or burst. If you see that your cyst is growing or reaming large then it could lead to these complications for your own health or your baby’s.

Ruptured Cyst – Ruptured cysts are a significant danger to soon to be mothers. If a cyst bursts while you are pregnant or during the tumult of childbirth then you may find a few problems that come form this. Firstly is the extreme pain of course which is something you do NOT want while giving birth. The other issue is that the fluid from the ruptured ovarian cyst can cause infections which before delivery can hurt yourself and your child, during delivery this can be dangerous to yourself after as you will need a lot of energy to recover form this and you need to look after your child.

Twisting - A twisted cyst’s main problem is the pain that it causes you during pregnancy and during birth. It may also be more at risk of rupturing due to the twisting pressure upon it which links into the other points listed here.

So what is the conclusion of a dangerous delivery if you are pregnant with ovarian cysts? As always “It depends“, but I hope with the warnings from above you can make better judgements on what you should be doing be is nothing if the cyst is small, to action against the cyst if you feel you might have trouble from these cysts.
